If you are thinking to build a new home or office or any building related construction, may be the Truss robot would be the third hand for your new construction. Cornell’s Creative Machines Lab is trying to make a robot that can climb and assemble building structures. This autonomous Truss robot is specially being modified to do the work in future perfectly. No doubt, the future construction sites will be more safe while building.
The autonomous truss robot is capable of clambering around 3D structures by twisting itself. The robot can assemble and disassemble the structures and pieces where necessary. The robot is equipped with an on-board power system and reflective sensors. The reflective sensors can identify its movement and position while it is on the structure. After several design iterations of Cornell’s prototype robot, IEEE Robotics and Automation has accepted the design pattern.
“Here, we are exploring the idea of machines making structures larger than themselves. Right now, we are very bad at recycling construction materials. We are exploring a smarter way to allow the assembly, dis-assembly and reconfiguration of structures.” said Lipson, associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering and of computing and information science.
Sometime, it is dangerous to assemble or disassemble structural component for human. Moreover there is a chance to face the death. But the highly programmed robot(s) is(are) capable to build and reconfigure structures which are dangerous to do for human without making any minute mistakes. Check out the animated video.
