There are many people in the world who prefer travelling on cycle rather than travelling on other vehicles. In Netherlands, 26 percent people prefer cycle for travelling around. But accidents may happen anytime during travelling on road, no matter whose fault it is. So, a Dutch company TNO is working on a car airbag that will deploy outside the vehicle when the vehicle hits a cyclist and will reduce bicyclist injuries.
When accidents happen, safety airbags inside a car can save the passengers, more or less. But if a car collides with a cyclist, he/she may not be so lucky as we haven’t seen such airbag for cyclist’s safety. But the good news is TNO is making a special car airbag for cyclist’s safety.
When a car will hit a cyclist, an airbag housed under the hood will inflate outside the car; over the bonnet and windshield. When the bicyclist will fall any side on the inflated airbag, the airbag will perform as a “foam” and hence will reduce the impact of free-fall up to 45 percent than usual accidents. It has been found that this airbag will significantly reduce the risks of head injuries mostly. It is expected that we will be seeing car airbag for cyclist’s safety before the year 2013 ends.
