Chat Heads On iOS Unbound With New Jailbreak Tweak

Facebook recently rolled out a number of new features on its mobile apps. Facebook Home was specifically geared towards Android users, letting them have a system-wide Facebook experience on their devices. Now, a jailbreak tweak allows iOS users to have a similar experience on their iPhones.

Facebook for iOS

Facebook Home essentially lets Android users access the new ‘Chat Heads’ from anywhere within their OS. The same functionality is not available directly on the iOS app that the social network has rolled out.

In the iOS app, users can access and use Chat Heads only while they are within the app. Apple essentially sandboxes any apps that are run on an iOS device.

Howeve, an iOS developer, Adam Bell, has now created a jailbreak tweak that would allow iOS users to overrule the firmware’s restrictions and access the Chat Heads feature from anywhere within the iOS. In other words, you can close the Facebook app on your iPhone and still continue chatting with your Facebook contacts.

The tweak hasn’t been released yet. Bell has promised that he would roll it out on Cydia, for free, by the end of this week. Naturally, you will need to have a jailbroken iOS device to use it. Moreover, although the tweak allows the app to continue running in the background, Bell claims that it doesn’t drain the battery faster. If that turns out to be true, the tweak may turn out to be a very useful tool.
