It has been a while since Google first showed its smart glasses. Envisioned under the Google Glass project, the company had promised to deliver those to the developers this year. Meanwhile, it has been enhancing the capabilities and tweaking the hardware of the glasses.
When Google first unveiled its Project Glass and showcased Google glasses to the world, many of us wondered about the navigation system that will be used by those tooling the glasses. Google hadn’t explained it well enough and some had speculated that it will probably be done with the help of an input mechanism on the side of the glasses. Now, a new Google patent more or less confirms this.
Google has been steadily working on its Project Glass and the prototype glasses from the project are being tested publicly by a number of Google personnel. While many have cast doubts as to whether or not these prototypes are fully functional and operate on their own, Google seems quite confident of the progress. The search giant has now unveiled the first video samples from the project.
In April, Google revealed details of its research in the Project Glass concept glasses and showed a demo video of a prototype. Google Glasses haven’t landed at your nearest eyeglasses shop yet but they have landed at the US Patent and Trade Office. They have been granted three different patents (1, 2, 3) for the design of different Google Glass headsets.
Google has dazed and mesmerized a lot of us with its Project Glass. However, what has been taxing on our curious minds is the question that hasn’t been answered yet: how does Google intend to pull off the kind of technology it has demonstrated in the videos of the project it has released. A Google patent, discovered now, may contain the answer to that question.
In a tech world that is increasingly interconnected, it is pertinent to file for patents as soon as something is a genuine intellectual property. That is precisely why, Google has been trying to get the patents of the design of its Project Glass. And as expected, Google has been granted the patent for the design.
