Back in the 1980s, the art director of the first Star Wars movie, Roger Christian, created a 25-minute film. The film was screened together with Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back back then. But then its negative was lost and it never resurfaced. Now, a copy of the film has been found out again and Christian intends to re-release it.
The copy of the film was found by an archivist at Universal Studios. After its 1980 debut, the film has never been screened again, so that puts a certain vintage value into it. Titled ‘Black Angel’, the film is about a knight from the medieval ages who is shown to be returning from the Crusades.
Naturally, Roger Christian is quite happy at having re-found the movie and intends to release it. How does he intend to do so, is unclear yet. While he wants to screen it in a cinema yet again, he also admits that putting it up as a downloadable file is a better option.
According to Christian, “I think it would be great to see it in a cinema again on a program with Empire Strikes Back. That’s how it was intended to be seen.”
We do hope that he decides in favor of a downloadable version since that will be able to attract a far greater number of viewers. Especially, the Star Wars fans would be very excited to lay their eyes on another of Christian’s cinematic creations.
