Randi Zuckerberg believes that the future of content production is not in Hollywood but in Silicon Valley. Her ‘Zuckerberg Media’ studios aims to lead the charge on this transition by becoming one of the first production houses in the region. And Zuckerberg has big plans with the new startup.
This is not the first time Randi Zuckerberg has gotten herself involved in media productions. She recently produced a reality show titled ‘Starts-ups: Silicon Valley’ which goes on to give a closer and at times, somewhat opinionated, look at startups in the area.
The response to the production wasn’t exactly good and many criticized Randi Zuckerberg for being hateful towards different startups. Nonetheless, it goes on to show that she knows what she’s doing with Zuckerberg Media and intends to continue along the path.
The 12,000-square-foot facility that Zuckerberg Media has laid its hands on will open up in February. The month will also mark the end of its first round of funding. Once the studio is open, Zuckerberg not only plans on creating original content herself but to also rent the space to other companies with similar purposes.
According to Zuckerberg, the future of the content industry lies in internet. Increasingly, YouTube and other online content distribution channels have taken the front-seat whereas regular distributors are obsolete. Since nearly all modern, internet-based content-distribution companies have their offices in Silicon Valley, it is the perfect place for a content-production studio. That is what, Zuckerberg says, lends her an edge over the regular Hollywood crowd.
She says, “My dream is that 10 years from now, people will look back and say, media has really changed and shifted to Silicon Valley, and Zuckerberg Media was the first to lead the charge.” Another reason why she’s leading the charge on this is that she wants the viewers to know more about the elusive Silicon Valley.
Most of us know about it in news and bits but never closely enough, “I think one thing that’s overarching about everything we’d like to do is that we’d like to make this crazy, awesome Silicon Valley world we live in feel a little more approachable to mainstream America.” It remains to be seen how accurate Randi Zuckerberg’s predictions, and how successful her aspirations, turn out to be in the coming days.
