Convert GTX 690 Into Tesla K10 Or Quadro K5000 With A Simple Hack

The GTX 690 from Nvidia costs a cool $999. In comparison, the Tesla K10 is an even expensive piece of hardware, priced at $3000, and Quadro K5000 costs $1750. What if you were told that you could turn GTX 690 into Tesla K10 and/or Quadro K5000 too with a simple hack? A hacker just found a way of doing so by tweaking a resistor mod!

Naturally, the news spread like wildfire on the web. The hack was originally concocted by an Australian hacker and the most amazing thing about it is its sheer simplicity.

All you have to do is mod a single resistor on the mainboard of the card. The resistor in question directly controls the PCI Device ID. The computer is able to identify the card through this very ID. So when you tinker with the transistor, you can make the computer think that it is detecting a K10 card even when it is a GTX690.

In fact, using this trick, you can even make the GTX 690 act like a K5000 card.

Of course, the hack wouldn’t render your GTX 690 as fast as the K10, but it will still let your GTX 690 act like one and allow you to put it to a lot more tasks and functionality. And the best part is that once your PC starts identifying your GTX 690 as K10, you can download and install Tesla and Quadro drivers.
