iOS users have been eagerly anticipating the release of iOS 5.1. This new version of iOS for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch is meant to tackle the battery issues in iPhone 4S and, as rumors have it, enable the support for Siri on iPad. We may also see some new features coming with this new iOS. But so far, there is no official word from Apple as to what exactly iOS 5.1 will introduce.
This latest speculation is based on the fact that the profiles that are being pushed by Apple to it’s mobile carriers indicate that Apple may be set to release iOS 5.1 on March 9th.
iOS 5.1 is particularly important for iPhone 4S users because most probably, the new iOS will try to tackle the problem of battery issues in the 4S device. Earlier, Apple released an update for iPhone 4S users but that update failed to solve the battery issues.
Another important expectation from iOS 5.1 is that it may finally introduce support for Siri in iPad. We had some indications to this in the latest dev-only beta releases of iOS 5.1. But what is totally unclear is that which iPad device will be provided such a Siri support and to what extent will the tablet Siri be similar to iPhone 4S Siri. Our guess is that for now, Siri may come only to iPad 2 and may have some more features that the iPhone 4S Siri.
March is especially significant for tech geeks because not only Apple is expected to release iOS 5.1 in the month, it is also being expected that Apple may finally reveal it’s next tablet, iPad 3. In March, it will be full one year since Apple released it’s last tablet, iPad 2, and it does seem logical that Apple may finally unveil the next gem in the series.
