The launch of Windows 8 is probably one of the most important events in the history of Microsoft. The company is taking a radical shift by moving from desktop-centric OS versions to one that is more suited to tablets and touchscreens. And according to reports, it is planning to spend a hefty sum of over $1 billion in marketing Windows 8.
We have got to admit that marketing is an increasingly important part of launching products these days. The more you get to see a product, the greater are the chances that you would decide to buy it eventually. Apparently, going by this principle, Microsoft intends to open up its cash vaults for marketing Windows 8.
The OS is due to be released later this month. Microsoft would definitely want that just ahead of the launch, it is able to create enough hype to make this release a huge event. After all, the prospective sales of Windows 8 copies are going to depend on that.
In a bid to do so, the company is apparently all set to kick off a marketing campaign over this weekend. The company has worked with the ad agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky in creating ads for the OS which will then be aired on a number of TV channels. The estimated budget that Microsoft is putting into this is between $1.5 and $1.8 billion, according to Forbes.
We can expect the company to launch a major marketing push, starting from this weekend and ending with the launch of Windows 8. While it shouldn’t come as a surprise since tech companies have been rather extravagant when it comes to launching their products, the steep budget estimate still is rather unexpected.
