Windows XP has been one of the most wildly popular operating systems around the globe. From developed nations to developing economies, it has been loved for its simplicity and user-friendliness and readily adopted. Recently, Microsoft announced that it will be relinquishing its support for Windows XP by April 8, 2014.
However, Microsoft’s announcement or the rising popularity of Windows 7, hasn’t significantly affected the popularity of Windows XP. During the month of April, a report suggests that Windows XP was still the most used OS. Windows 7 is definitely grabbing up a greater share of the market over time but XP still remains very popular.
According to the report, XP enjoys some 45% of the market share while Windows 7 is about to touch 40%. Windows Vista, naturally because its problematic and heavy and became it earned a notorious fame because of these traits, is nearly dead.
There are, however, other reports that show that Windows 7 has taken over Windows XP. For instance, StatCounter states that Windows XP currently has a market share of 31.8 percent while that of Windows 7 has risen to 47.5 percent.
As soon as Microsoft’s much-anticipated Windows 8 comes, it will inevitably divide the market further. In the long run, the share of Windows XP will definitely fall while that of Windows 7 and Windows 8 will rise but in the developing economies, Windows XP will continue to be a thriving OS.
