Google Shows Off Apps For Google Glass, Including Gmail

Google is really starting to set the wheels in motion for its upcoming Google Glass offering. The company has been ramping up the hype surrounding the product. During the SXSW event, the company went forth to show off a number of apps that can run on Google Glass. These include Gmail as well as other third-party apps.

Google Glass

Naturally, that shouldn’t be a surprise. Today’s mobile world is built on top of apps ecosystems and Google was sure to utilize the power of its Android ecosystem to fuel the Google Glass. However, for a start, the company is apparently trying to bring the most popular Android apps over to Google Glass.

At the event, a Google spokesperson demonstrated how he can easily dictate an email to one of his colleagues simply with the help of his voice while using the smart glasses. If the demo is any good measure to go by, the voice-to-speech accuracy on Google Glass is certainly excellent. It is worth-noting that the demo involved sending the said email on Gmail, which means that a Gmail app is among the earliest apps for Google Glass.

Next up, the company also showed off other third-party apps such as Evernote, Skitch and Path. The video quality of the presentation from the event may not be very good but you do get a rough idea as to how Google is positioning its upcoming product. Watch the video below to catch the demo.
