DigiTimes nearly always have got something to report about Apple products. A lot of times, it is not true but it sure is always interesting. Now, the publication is reporting that Apple may use ‘in-cell’ touch panels in the next-generation iPhone. DigiTimes claims that this has been divulged by a source in Apple’s supply chain.

According to DigiTimes, in-touch cell panels in the new iPhone can have a huge impact on the overall appearance of the device. This is because this technology is said to remove one layer of glass from the display. This can allow Apple to follow its thinner philosophy and ship out a much thinner next-generation iPhone.

At the same time, the technology may enable Apple to cut costs from iPhone’s display. The in-cell touch panels that DigiTimes will be used in next iPhone are said to be produced by Sharp and Toshiba Mobile Display. Apple has been persuaded to start using this new technology primarily because of an improvement in the yield rates of the display vendors.

The reports say that Sharp will be using 5.5G lines in the in-cell panels whereas Toshiba will be using 6G lines. The volume of the production will be increased by the second quarter so as to meet the assumed launch of the next iPhone by the end of 3rd quarter.
