iPhone 5 With Global LTE All Set To Trigger More Patent Wars

The launch event of the next iPhone, due on September 12th, is just around the corner. A number of speculations and rumors have been doing their rounds regarding iPhone 5. To add to it, a fresh badge of speculations suggest that iPhone 5 will indeed feature global LTE connectivity options, a move which may lead Apple to more patent wars.

According to different analysts, Apple’s upcoming iPhone will support $G LTE networks in Asia, Europe and the U.S. Thus it will be featuring global LTE, which is welcome news for iPhone users around the world. However, it will not support all the LTE networks in these regions.

Fresh round of patent wars for Apple:
One problem that Apple may face if it indeed releases an LTE iPhone 5 is that Samsung may decide to sue it. Samsung already owns nearly 10 percent of LTE patents and has vowed that if Apple releases its upcoming iPhone with LTE connectivity, it will sue the tech giant. In fact, after the fresh round of rumors predicting LTE in iPhone 5, Samsung has ‘has decided to take immediate legal action’ in Europe and the U.S., as per inside sources.

At the same time, HTC has mounted an assault against Apple over the use of LTE in iPad. For now, the case seems clearly in favor of HTC. If indeed HTC is able to secure a win in this case, it will inevitably go after the new iPhone, seeking to have both new iPad and the upcoming iPhone banned in U.S.

Nonetheless, despite these risks, adding LTE connectivity is a must-have for Apple. LTE refers to the latest generation of wireless connectivity which offer the highest data transfer speeds. And it is fast becoming the primary decisive feature for smartphone users.

A number of Android vendors are already offering LTE-supported smartphones. What remains to be seen is that whether or not the speculations of the analysts turn out to be true about the new iPhone. We will know for sure on September 12th when Apple finally unveils the much-anticipated device.

Finger-print recognition coming to iPhone 5?
In other news, it has been suggested that Apple may introduce finger-print recognition technology in its new iPhone. This would eliminate the need for password protection and one can simply press his finger to unlock iPhone. The speculation is based on the fact that Apple recently acquire AuthenTec, a company which specializes in fingerprint sensors and other similar technologies.
