Linus Torvalds, father of Linux, has always been very vocal about his opinions, and pinpointed various anomalies in the tech spere. This time he has cracked on attitude of laptop designers towards high resolution display.
Torvalds is surely influenced by the Nexus 10’s ultra high resolution. The 10-inch tablet packs a 2560×1600 pixel display. And the price, that’s a killer – just $399 for the 16GB version.
Torvalds is intrigued by such a high resolution display in a 10-inch form-factor with a killer price. He is equally agitated by the high price points of Apple devices containing “Retina displays,” calling those “crap.” He argues that 2560×1600 pixel displays are “reasonable” enough for laptops and should be “the new standard.” Torvalds ruled out the current standard of 1366×768 pixel displays as “so last century.”
The comments on laptop displays were posted in Torvalds’s Google+ profile two days ago. The response is really good, with most of the followers supporting his plea. Some were opposing the proposal though.
Torvalds also talked on the common misconception that higher resolution displays equate to “small fonts.” He vowed to “give an atomic wedgie” to all those who spreads the misconception.
Way to go Mr. Torvalds, way to go.

I’m all for higher resolution, but when it comes to windows laptops, that high of a resolution is a bad idea for 2 reasons:
1) – Windows and its applications doesn’t scale well… 1920×1080 is probably the highest resolution you want on 15″ screens there.
2) – High resolutions will destroy performance for 3D applications and games.
That said, the now common 1366×768 resolution is terrible for anything larger than 10 inches across.
