New MacBook Pro Models Will Use Nvidia Graphics

Apple is planning a major overhaul of its MacBook Pro lineup of notebooks. The new models are expected to arrive later this year and a lot of rumors are doing their rounds regarding the specs of these machines. For instance, earlier we have hinted at that the notebooks will have Intel’s Ivy Bridge processors. And now, it seems that Apple may use Nvidia graphics in them.

Folks at Nvidia had been hoping that Apple may choose them over their counterpart chip giant, AMD. In the earlier models of MacBook Pro, Apple has used AMD GPUs but now, a number of sources have reported that Apple is using Nvidia graphics in the new MacBook Pro models.

The news comes from more or less two sources at this time: the first source is The Verge which has claimed that it has received these news from a very trusted source. The second chief source is ABC News who has claimed that Apple will indeed be using high-resolution Retina Displays in MacBook Pro models, which means that it will also have to use high-performance graphics processors, making Nvidia chips an ideal choice.

Moreover, there are hints as to which Nvidia chip may be used in MacBook Pro. One possibility is that the GeForce GT 650M will be used which happens to be 28nm chip built on Kepler architecture. The chip delivers excellent performance and may really fit in with the overall beauty of the notebook.

Other updates that Apple has planned for the MacBook Pro may include a thinner and lighter body, bridging the gap between Pro and Air lineups further. Also, the upcoming MacBook Pro may be bereaved of an optical drive although we are told that it will feature a USB 3.0 port.
