Acer, the leading Taiwan-based manufacturer of PCs and notebooks, has already launched a high-end multimedia smartphone, optimised for watching movies, listening to music and browsing the Web.
Acer’s finally ready to release the Acer Stream, and they’re doing it through UK retailer Expansys. The device – announced back in late May – is equipped with a 3.7-inch capacitive AMOLED display, will come preloaded with Android 2.1 and Acer’s custom interface, a 1GHz processor, HDMI, 720p video recording capabilities, and more.
While other manufacturers are all creating their custom UI’s that enhance the Android experience, Acer has gone back to the drawing board and completely rethought what the Android user experience should look like. The Acer Stream will allow users to add widgets to their lockscreen, scroll through recent applications with a flick of a finger, access their notifications by categories, and change phone settings without having to dive into Android’s menu system.
For now, the phone will be launching exclusively through Expansys on August 3rd for £399.99 (roughly $600).
