The price of Nokia Lumia 900 has been cut to half by AT&T. The price cut came after three months since the phone’s launch in US through AT&T. When Nokia Lumia 900 entered in US market through AT&T the device had been priced at $99 with two-year agreement. Yesterday, the new price ($49.99 with two year contract) was announced.
The price cutting has announced at a time when Nokia is experiencing financial woes and trim lining corporate structure in different regions. The company is under a lot of pressure due to market-share losses and pressure on margins. And, the investors don’t seem to be confident about the Finnish mobile maker’s Lumia line-up.
It should also be noted that price cutting is a common phenomena in the US market. So, whether the decision came because demands were low or a new phone (rumored to be Lumia 910 with Windows Phone 8) is under way is not clear. The genuine cost of the phone to AT&T is also not clear. Hence, calculating how much both companies (Nokia and AT&T) will pay for the new price cut is not possible.
