European Carriers Term Lumia Phones ‘Not Good Enough’ Against iPhone And Android

Microsoft and Nokia have spent a lot of their energy, time and money on making the flagship Windows Phone lineup, Nokia Lumia, a success. Whereas Lumia devices are far from being a great success, carriers are already of the opinion that Lumia phones are ‘not good enough’ to compete against Apple and Android mobile devices.

Wireless carriers need to know if a phone will pitch in with the customers. They would want to sell it only if they see this happening. However, apparently a number of European carriers have cited their opinion that Lumia phones are no good when they have to compete against iPhone or Samsung Galaxy devices.

The result of this lack-lustre appeal of Lumia devices is that carriers don’t really feel like pushing for Lumia phones. They have alternates available in the form of iPhone and Android devices and when they believe the latter have a better chance at selling, they are naturally going to ignore Lumia devices.

According to a European carrier executive, ‘No one comes into the store and asks for a Windows phone.’ The result is that the sales personnel at the stores too are not willing to recommend the device to others. Microsoft has revealed that it has been training sales reps but without adequate knowledge of the features and advantages of Lumia phones, this is going to help little.

Overall, Lumia devices are not doing too bad. Nokia’s Lumia 900, for instance, was among the best-seller devices with AT&T recently and rumor had it that AT&T stores ran out of stock of the device. This pretty much means that even if Lumia phones haven’t been a huge success, they are at least making their presence known. And that may be just the kind of humble start that Windows Phone devices need to gain traction.
