A lot of buzz has been surrounding the launch of Samsung’s flagship device, Galaxy S III. I must say a lot of us must’ve been surprised at a number of things, including the colors in which S III is available. Nonetheless, with this device, Samsung has taken a huge leap forward, introducing a whole plethora of really cool and unique new features, some of which are quite awe-inspiring.

Although S III has been unveiled with a lot of new features from Samsung, I will try to detail some of the most extra-ordinary features that are part of the device. Have a look below:

Smart Stay:
A lot of smartphone vendors have been trying to incorporate a more interactive experience in their devices. However, compares to other notable leaders such as iPhone and Lumia, Samsung’s Galaxy  S III definitely takes a crown on this one by introducing ‘natural interactions.’ Samsung is quite right when it says that S III ‘”sees, listens, and responds.’

This has been achieved through a clever collaboration of camera use with other sensors. For instance, you may have been vexed at times when you are reading something on the screen for a long time and the device thinks that perhaps it is idle and dims the screen brightness. You then have to tap it to kind of ‘wake up’ the device.

With Smart Stay, the camera keeps looking right into your eyes – while you are reading or looking into the screen, it knows. So it keeps the screen brightness to optimum as long as you keep looking into the screen.

S Voice:
Apple’s Siri won many accolades for being a brilliant natural-voice-based personal assistant. Samsung has now upped the ante by launching its own voice-based assistant, called S Voice. But in many ways, it performs a lot more than what Siri does. For instance, while you can perform all the conventional functions such as email dictation, controlling different media and managing your calendar, you can also tell it to ‘snooze’ the alarm and activate the camera through your voice and take photos.

Moreover, S Voice comes with default support for eight languages including English, Italian, German, Spanish and Korean.

Direct Call:
Imagine a scenario where you receive a text from a friend and while reading the text, you want to talk to him on the call immediately. Mostly, you will have to exit the messages, go to contacts and dial his number. With Samsung S III it is stunningly convenient and easier. All you have to do is while reading the message, simple raise the phone to your ear. The device will detect this and automatically dial the person whose text you’ve been reading.

Smart Alert:
At times, you may miss calls or text messages when you are away from your device. However, when you get back to your device, you have no idea of the missed calls or texts. With S III’s Smart Alert, this won’t be the case. If you have missed any calls or texts when the device was idle and later got back to it and picked it  up, it will vibrate to let you know that you missed something so that you can immediately check it up.

While Galaxy S III has definitely outdone all Lumia devices on the market, it has also taken the crown away from iPhone 4S on a lot of things. Given its host of new features, the bar has been set further high for Apple to meet with its upcoming iPhone.
