Samsung Launches REX Line Of Handsets For Emerging Markets

Samsung has brought a new handset line for emerging markets. The new line-up, branded as REX, will compete with Nokia’s Asha handset line. Samsung has launched four new phones – REX 60, REX 70, REX 80, and REX 90 – under the new line.

The screen sizes of the phones range from 2.8 inches to 3.5 inches with QVGA touch-screen capability. The REX series phones run on Java and supports the company’s TouchWiz user interface (UI) and access to its app store. But no information about 3G support is out yet.

Marking the launch of REX line, JK Shin, president and head of IT & mobile communications division at Samsung Electronics, said, “We are committed to developing the best possible mobile solutions to suit all lifestyles and budgets, which is why we are so excited to launch the Rex series across a number of the world’s fastest growing markets.”

In terms of pricing, these new REX phones are at par with the Asha series. According to the Hindu, the prices for the new four REX series phones are between INR 4,280 (US$79.37) and INR 6,490 (US$120.35).
