Until now, Nokia had focused on dishing out mid-end and high-end Lumia handsets, so as to carve out a Windows Phone fan following. Now, the company has devised the strategy of also catering to the developing markets by introducing cheaper Lumia handsets. To this end, Nokia has unveiled Lumia 520 handset which has an unbelievably low price tag.
The most astonishing thing about Nokia Lumia 520 is that it runs Windows Phone 8. Until now, Windows Phone 8 has been limited almost exclusively to high-end Lumia handsets and other smartphones which feature superior specifications. However, with Lumia 520, Nokia has stepped away from that strategy.
But that doesn’t mean that Lumia 520 doesn’t pack good enough specifications. In fact, within the limit of its price range, its specifications are somewhat surprising. The handset packs a 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor together with 512MB of RAM and 8GB of storage space. The display is a 4-inch IPS LCD with a 800 x 480 resolution and the handset comes with a 5-megapixel rear camera.
In all, these specifications are quite good. And couple them with the Windows Phone 8 platform and that makes Lumia 520 a good choice for mid-end and low-end users. The handset will be available in a number of colors, as has been the case with most Lumia releases.
In US, Lumia 520 will be available with T-Mobile. In China, the handset will be carried by China Mobile and will carry a price tag of €139. That is incredibly low! If this exact price is offered in the UK, after adding the taxes, the handset’s price will essentially remain less than £150. Imagine getting a similar price in the U.S. for the same handset and I think I can safely assume that we’re all in for a sweet deal from Nokia.
