You surely have seen robots in various roles in movies as well as in real life. But, I’m sure that you have never seen robots guarding the civialians from criminals. The closet thing you might remember is of the movie RoboCop, where a cyborg roam around the city relentlessly to confront the notorious warlords of Detroit, Michigan. The only problem was, RoboCop was not a robot, although he was guarding the city from the criminals. Seems that South Korean authorities have tweaked the idea a little bit, and deployed a robot designed to guard the world from criminals. Only in this case, the criminals are caged in a high security prison. Yes, a prison in South Korea is testing a robot designed to guard the roughest prison cell blocks.
About Robo-guard :
Robo-guard is developed in South Korea. It is autonomous. Inside of Robo-guard, there are a number of cameras including a 3D one, a microphone, and software designed for analyzing human emotions. Officers can also speak to inmates without having to leave the control room. Although Robo-guard is autonomous, but it can be controlled manually via an iPad. Based on an inmates’ behavior, its special software can determine when an incident may ensue. If it suspects anything, then it will raise the alarm and human officers will come to the spot.
