The mini-tablet market is fast becoming crowded. Every other regular tablet vendor is now offering a smaller, cheaper version to lure more customers. Joining others in this category is now Acer which plans on launching a 7-inch Acer Iconia B1 tablet by 2013.
The tablet is said to pack a 1024 x 600 display resolution which will be juiced up with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor. Other alleged specifications of the B1 tablet are fairly humble.
Mini tablets are currently being offered at highly affordable rates. However, Acer intends to notch up the competition by offering a price which will beat the offerings of Amazon, Google and the likes. According to sources, Acer has plans of launching its tablet with a price tag of a mere $99.
However, one slight glitch is that currently, Acer has plans of offering the device only in developing nations. The company has already filed with FCC in the U.S. but until the filing is approved, the tablet can’t be made available in the U.S.
The person who divulged this fresh information regarding the price point of Acer B1 tablet also said, “In the past few months, we’ve made project roadmap changes in response to big changes in the tablet market. The launch of the Nexus 10 has changed the outlook for what makes competitive pricing.”
Google’s Nexus 7 was certainly very significant in persuading other players in the arena to slash down their prices. As Acer also hopes on jumping the mini-tablet bandwagon soon, we can only hope that more competition would mean better products at more affordable rates for the customers.
