One of the most impressive devices introduced to the curious reporters at this year’s edition of Mobile World Congress, hosted these days in Barcelona, is a Toshiba 7.7 inch tablet, modestly named AT270. Believed to be properly announced as a member of the Excite family, Toshiba AT270 is about 8 mm thin, in addition to its small size screen, which makes it very light and easy to fit in a pocket.
The model has rounded edges and a pleasant textured back plastic cover. But underneath its frail appearance the tablet hides some impressive inner power. The sleek and incredibly portable tablet from Toshiba features a high resolution AMOLED display with 1280 x 800 pixels, which means 196 pixel density. In addition AT270 comes with the latest Android version, Ice Cream Sandwich, powered by a Nvidia Tegra 3 processor.
The new Toshiba tablet also features two cameras, the rear one with a flash, a micro SD card slot, a USB port and two speakers for extra media entertainment and Wi-Fi support. Toshiba AT270 has 1 GB of RAM and is expected to come with internal storages of 16, 32 or 64 GB (the prototype available at the MWC was a 32 GB model). Featuring all three in different versions is not an unexpected possibility. There is no news about battery life span, and analysts are already concerned considering the small sizes of the device.
The visitors at the MWC who managed to get to the Nvidia booth and were lucky enough to play a little with the new Toshiba tablet noticed that the device is still in the development stage. There is still the possibility of a few mishaps such as unexpectedly locking the tablet but there is still time for addressing all the unexpected occurrences. Toshiba and Nvidia didn’t announce a release date for the device, nor a price tag.
