Olivetti OliPad, First Italian Tablet

Italian ICT services provider Olivetti announced the launch of the OliPad, a tablet PC device based on the Android OS. The Olivetti OliPad tablet will go on sale next Monday, March 7, 2011. As noted, this Olivetti tablet is first appearing in December 2010.

Newly Olivetti OliPad is equipped with 1GB of RAM, 16GB SSD, 10.1-inch touchscreen display with resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels and supports multitouch.

OliPad Froyo tablet is sports Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, 3G module, 1.3-megapixel camera, two USB ports, and HDMI connectors. Its weighs is about 780 g.

The Olivetti OliPad will be available on sale in Italy for price of euro 399 (about $575).

Other features include TXT/Email, Stereo Bluetooth support, 2MP camera and a large 2.4-inch screen.

Dell’s consumer products division is not doing well lately, because of competition from cheap entry-level products in emerging markets by other companies. The company’s earnings reduced by a factor of three. Its shares tumbled in extended trade. Its consumer unit is struggling to slow down the decline in sales. Overall, Dell is struggling. Now the company is planning to revamp its consumer unit with sales of new touchscreen laptops and tablets featuring Windows 8 OS.
