Gaming networks have been steadily working to remove registered sex offenders from their networks. The attempts are evidently meant to secure gamers online. Five gaming companies have now agreed to delete another 2100 sex offenders from their lists as part of the effort.
In the past, a number of major tech companies have already agreed to be a part of this initiative which is being dubbed ‘Operation: Game Over.’ The initiative has assumed a greater scope as more and more companies join it.
Five new companies that have decided to join hands with the government in ensuring the safety of online gamers include FunCon, THQ, NCSoft Corp and Gaia Online. The latest round involves deleting off 2100 sex offenders from the networks.
Once this is done, the total tally of such accounts removed from online gaming networks would reach 5600. From the looks of it, Operation Game Over is far from over and government intends to keep pushing it to involve many more companies.
In a statement released by the New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, “The Internet is the crime scene of the 21st century, and we must ensure that online video game platforms do not become a digital playground for dangerous predator.”
