Olympics Swimmer Blames Social Media For Losing Gold

Australian swimmer, Emily Seebohm, has been the hot-favorite for the 100m backstroke final. She had smashed a few records recently, displaying excellent performance during the qualifying preliminaries. However, when the time for final performance came, she missed the gold medal for just a few moments and ended up second. The twist is, she is blaming social media for her loss.

Naturally, Seebohm was very disappointed and those who have seen the match live would have seen her crying after having lost the gold medal. Nonetheless, she still scored a silver which is an achievement in itself.

Later, Seebohm stated that she partially blames the social media for her loss. In a way, she may be right. Soon after she gave a brilliant performance in the preliminary matches, the social media was abuzz with news about her with many claiming that she will be able to grab a gold medal very easily.

No matter how humble you are, such showers of praises somehow affect you. And that, Seebohm says, is how she feels her performance was affected during the actual match. According to her, “When they tell you a thousand times you are going to get it, somewhere in your mind you are just like, ‘I’ve done it.'” In other words, she became a bit careless due to all the reassurances on the social media.

However, it’s a timely lesson that she has learnt. Because she still has a chance to participate in yet another race which is due this weekend. Maybe by becoming more careful and diligent, she may end up finding the glory she has been looking for.
