Online hacktivism is a gaining trend and scores of young fellows, specifically teenage boys, have taken a liking to it and are becoming a part of it. With hacktivist outfits having hacked a lot of websites and revealed leaks of personal and official data, governments around the world are taken their activities a lot more seriously.
Team Poison is one of the prominent online hacktivist groups and has been involved in disrupting access to a number of websites through Denial of Service attacks. Moreover, the groups is also allegedly held responsible for a number of data leaks through which information acquired illegally has been published online.
Now, in what may seem to be a major blow to the group, a 17-year old teenage boy has been arrested on the charges that he is a spokesman for the group.
The arrest is the result of collaboration between Northumbria Police and Police Central eCrime Unit (PCeU). According the police, the boy is a member of Team Poison and thus, has been booked under Computer Misuse Act 1990.
The statement from the police reads, “Computer equipment has been seized and is undergoing a detailed forensic examination. Enquiries continue between the PCeU and other relevant law enforcement agencies in this continuing and wide-ranging investigation.” Authorities are continuing their investigation into the case although the boy has been released on bail for now.
