Yahoo has been in troubled waters for quite some time now. The company has tried to rescue its downward spiral by letting go of employees and trimming down its product line-up. Continuing the effort, Yahoo has launched yet another cleaning spree, abandoning a whole range of products such as Yahoo Deals and SMS Alerts.
The axe is also falling on a number of Yahoo apps for feature phones. For instance, the Yahoo Mail and Messenger apps for feature phones will be abandoned by the company as part of the cleaning. Quite interestingly, Yahoo is eliminating these products on the pretext that it wants to create space for ‘new’ products. What these new products are, is yet to be seen.
Announcing the move in an official blog post, Yahoo’s executive vice president of platforms, Jay Rossiter, wrote, “We want to bring you experiences that inspire and entertain you every day. That means taking a hard look at all of our products to make sure they are still central to your daily habits. As part of that ongoing effort, today we are shutting down a few more products.”
If you’re an avid user of any of the aforementioned Yahoo products that are being abandoned, you should navigate to the official blog post and see the detailed procedure on how to secure your data before the products go offline. Yahoo Deals users, for instance, can save their coupons and redeem them elsewhere while apps users can switch to more recent versions.
