Two Similar Earth-Sized Planet Found

Astronomers success excel when they discover/explore something of/about a new Planet. Recently, the research team have detected the first Earth-sized planets which are orbiting a Star outside our solar system. According to the researchers, it’s been assuming that, in the past they might been able to support life like our present planet Earth.

2 New Planets

The leader of this vital research Dr Francois Fressin, of Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, Cambridge, US, said that this very little tiny exploration was the starting of a “New Era” of discovery of many more planets similar to Earth.

The planets that we are talking about are Kepler-20e and Kepler-20f. Seems that both this planets were able to support life. But Dr. Fressin words, necessary conditions for life could happen then, while the planets were once a little bit far from their Star and Cool enough for liquid water to exist on their surface.

“We know that these two planets may have migrated closer to their Sun,” Dr. Fressin told BBC News. “The larger of the two which is Kepler-20f might have been an Earth twin in the past. It has the same size as Earth and in the past it could have had the same temperature”.

Comparison of 2 Planets

If coming to shape, size and orbiting time then Kepler-20f, is almost exactly the size of the Earth. Apparently, Kepler-20e is slightly smaller at 0.87 times the radius of Earth and is closer to its star than Kepler-20f. As a matter of fact, they both are much closer to their star than the Earth is to the Sun and therefore they complete an Orbit much more quickly. Where the Earth takes a year, Kepler-20e circles its star in just 6 days and Kepler-20f completes an orbit in 20 days.

According to the research team, they have described their this very findings as the most important planets ever discovered outside our Solar System. They say that these planets are basically rocky and alike our own planet.

Dr Fressin says that the planets’ composition may be similar to Earth’s with a third of it consisting of iron core. The remainder probably consists of a silicate mantle. He also believes that the outer planet (Kepler 20f) may have developed a thick, water vapor atmosphere.

Kepler Space Telescope

Whatever it is, the discovery is really important because it’s the first confirmation that these planets are near the same size of Earth and Smaller one which is Kepler-20e exist outside our Solar System. Kepler Space Telescope has discovered 35 planets so far. Apart from Kepler-20e and Kepler-20f, small planets around stars that are thousands of light-years away are larger than the Earth.

Coincidentally, a group of researchers including Dr. Fressin, discovered another inevitable information. There was a planet nearly Two-and-a-half times the size of Earth that lay in “Goldilocks Zone” which is the region around a star where it is normal temperate, and just right for liquid water and which gives a sign of life to exist on that planet.

Are we getting closer to an Earth-like Planet around a Sun-like Star? If that planet is suitable to live/exist, are we going to shift there? Who will inaugurate the new planet? Let’s see, what happens to human race!
