Volvo and Siemens aid they plan a partnership to develop electric vehicles and aim to start testing the autos by the end of this year. The first of Volvo’s vehicles to be fitted with a Siemens electric drive motor will hit test tracks by the end of 2011 and the Swedish automaker will deliver up to 200 vehicles to Siemens to be evaluated under real-world conditions. he two manufacturers are collaborating on vehicles equipped with electric drive motors, in particular Siemens’s C30 DRIVe and tests will begin later this year with 200 vehicles set to be delivered in late 2012 for evaluation under real-life conditions……………..

Toyota Smashes EV Record On Nurburgring

Toyota Motorsport Group’s PV001 EV set a record for fastest electric vehicle on the Nürburgring Nordschleife and this beats the previous electric car time by a healthy margin and puts Toyota’s electric racer on par with the lap times recorded by vehicles like the Nissan GT-R and Porsche 911 Turbo, but is still a ways off the any-powertrain-goes record of 6:48. The just-bested EV record was set by Peugeot’s EX1 earlier this year at 9.01:33 and the EX1 averaged a rather impressive 85.9 miles per hour on the grueling track. Toyota hopes the victory will bring new awareness to electric racing and perhaps to help sell custom race cars in the future and the project is a valuable chance to test high-performance electric powertrains in a real motorsport environment, giving TMG’s engineer’s a chance to learn more about cooling, battery performance, motor performance, durability, etc……………

World’s Smallest And Lightest Chargers For Electric Vehicles Is In Developent

Kyoto-based Nichicon has now developed what they say are the world’s smallest and chargers for these vehicles, the NQC-A202 and the NQC-A302, both chargers are sized at just 150x35x60cm, about 50% smaller than existing devices. By using what the company calls advanced module technology, it was able to shrink its EV charger down by 50 percent to around 59 x 13.8 x 23.6 inches and reducing the weight by up to 66 percent. These 20-30kW chargers will work with electric vehicles like Mitsubishi’s i-MiEV and the Nissan Leaf, taking between 35 and 60 minutes to fully power your whip…………..

Google Builds Largest EV Charging Network

Google says it has largest corporate EV charging network in the US with some 200 chargers currently in place, plus an extra 250 that are on the way and Google has purchased some extra Chevy Volts and Nissan Leafs, this Gfleet will eventually expand to include a total of 30 EVs, which explains the expansion of its ChargePoint Network. The company hopes this initiative will encourage more people to purchase EVs, and estimates that it’ll eventually save a total of 5,400 tonnes of CO2 per year and the equivalent to removing about 2,000 cars from the road…………
