Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has hinted about the company’s ambitious sales plans of Windows 8. According to him, there will be 500 million Windows 8 users by end of 2013. However, analysts expect Windows 8 to flop and PC sales to suffer.

Microsoft seems to be expanding its built-in Windows 8 apps for the upcoming Release Preview. According to WinUnleaked.tk, Windows 8 Release Preview, to be released on the first week of June, will include News, Sports, and Travel Metro style apps. The site (registration required) has already posted screenshots and information about the Release Preview build over the last few days.

Microsoft’s buy a PC and get a Xbox 360 for free deal returns for students. If a U.S student buys a qualifying Windows PC for $699 or more at participating retailers he can get a free 4GB Xbox 360 console. This deal will be starting from May 20. This deal is also valid for the Canadian students. By purchasing a PC for $599 or more a Canadian student will get a 4GB Xbox 360 console for free from May 18. Microsoft did not declare the end date of this deal.

The use of DVDs has indeed been declining over recent years, with content more readily available online and transmitted more often through flash drives. Google launched its Chrome OS on the premise that people want to get away from a Windows-like interface and wish for a quicker access to browsing and other applications. Not many of us tend to miss many of the features in older versions of Windows. However, Windows 8 doesn’t feature a ‘Start menu’ and that can be something which will take some time to get used to.
