Smartphones, The Major Stress-Trigger According to British Psychological Society

Granted the new survey published by British Psychological Society doesn’t have a wide base of respondents with only 100 Britons answering to the question about the relation between stress causes and smartphones, but we all can figure out the study’s conclusions. The survey reveals that the stress is only indirectly caused by smartphones as people are always checking e-mails and notifications form their smartphones.

Smartphone addicts who are glancing to the displays of their phones are voluntarily in stressful situations and they stay connected to their stress source by choice. In enterprise environment the stress levels are higher but also smartphones are used as tools to increase work efficiency.

“Organizations will not flourish if their employees are stressed, irrespective of the source of stress, so it is in their interest to encourage their employees to switch their phones off; cut the number of work emails sent out of hours, reduce people’s temptation to check their devices,” as BPS Psychologist, Richard Balding from the University of Worcester explains.

However, the study also talks about “helpful-stressful cycle” when it comes to smartphones. In the moments that follow the purchase , the user discovers the helpful features of his or her new device and than this person becomes voluntarily addicted to the most used features, which are most commonly e-mails and notifications.
