Intel To Port Android 3.0 Honeycomb Onto Atom Tablets

According to the register, Paul Otellini, president and chief executive of Intel has said the chip maker is working on porting Honeycomb, Google’s tablet-specific Android 3.0, to the x86 architecture. This move implies that Intel is more than interested in getting its chips into tablet manufacturer’s hands, especially those companies eager to get Honeycomb tablets on store shelves.

Intel said that they have their hands on the source code for Android 3.0 Honeycomb. And Intel also mentioned they are working to port Android 3.0 Honeycomb onto their platform, and they went on to say Honeycomb tablets will be seen later this year. And that kind of goes along with the rumor that ASUS might switch to Intel for the Eee Pad Slider which would make sense if Intel is working on Android 3.0 Honeycomb. That’s because the tablet would still be able to run Honeycomb, and the Atom processor would probably perform a bit better than the Tegra 2 processor.

And Intel is still working at the phone market. Intel is focusing now on their own devices and manufacturers, so they’ve got over Nokia. And they expect to see Intel phones on the market within 12 months.

Thanks
