Iron Man-style Combat Suit TALOS Is On The Way

It’s nothing new that movies inspire people to do innovative things. And now it seems like the movie Iron Man and its squeals have created a great impact upon the US army. The US Army researchers are now working on to build Iron Man-style combat suit for its soldiers.

Iron Man Suit

The Iron Man alike suit that the researchers are trying to make is called Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit (TALOS). The TALOS will be equipped with advanced armor, efficient power systems and integrated medical monitoring/treatment system. It will provide effective protection of the head and extremities. TALOS will also include passive or low-powered exoskeletons to improve strength and endurance of the individual soldier. Situational awareness and C4 (Command, Control, Communications, and Computers) capabilities might be incorporated into TALOS. Greatly enhanced medical diagnostic and treatment abilities will also be integrated into TALOS.

Researchers believe this hi-tech body armor would give soldiers “superhuman strength” in a real-life version of the suit featured in “Iron Man” films. The US Army will held a program in mid-November where it will show the demonstrations of the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) technologies. The TRLs correspond to the range between basic research on a technology through partial demonstrations of new technologies. However, at present, there are no plans to include flight capability.

Researchers hope, within three years they would be able to build a basic version of TALOS. The US Army hasn’t announced the total budget for making this suit. Here’a video on TALOS below.
