Microsoft Displays Research Projects, Big-Screen Prototypes At TechFest

Every year, Microsoft brings together an event where the fruits of Microsoft Research’s year-long hard work are displayed. Traditionally, the event is fairly coveted since it features a number of cutting-edge technologies. At this year’s event, named TechFest 2013, Microsoft showed off a number of big-screen prototypes crunching big data.

The event, although mustering significant coverage every year, is mostly closed. During the week-long TechFest, non-employees were allowed to lay their eyes on whatever the Microsoft team was showing off only on March 5th.

Among the projects that Microsoft is showing off at TechFest is ViralSearch, which has already gained a lot of traction across the social media. ViralSearch essentially presents a very impressive visual representation of the viral data, detailing its path right from its start to the end. It further reveals how viral data, such as videos, music etc, is carried from first-generation users to the next generation and so on.

Another interesting thing about this year’s TechFest is that Microsoft is showing off many big screens at the event. The company has apparently been devising new and novel ways to interact with large multi-touch screens and is positioning them for team work and corporate use.

Other projects on display at the event included SketchInsight, an interactive system which is an improvement over a similar project which was seen at the last year’s Microsoft event. In all, the event is certainly a very intriguing affair and the projects shown off by Microsoft hold both commercial and research potential for the company.
