Sony has released a new streaming music app for Google Android smartphones, called Music Unlimited and it’s powered by the company’s Qriocity streaming music service, is available as a free download from the Android Market, but you’ll need to sign up for a monthly subscription plan to actually stream any music. Sony is offering free 30-day trials, but if you forget to cancel by the end of the month you could find $3.99 to $9.99 on your bill and the lower priced service allows you to tune into ad-free streaming music channels sorted by genre, era, or mood……….
Sony’s cloud-based Music Unlimited (powered by Qriocity) music service has had a major breakthrough, this new app brings the cloud of music to select Android-based smartphones and naturally all of the Sony Ericsson Android handhelds that will support the program. The app went live on Android Market early this morning as a free download, although a subscription to the service’s Basic or Premium plan is required. The app provides access to the Music Unlimited catalogue of more than seven million songs on a streaming basic, with Basic subscribers able to listen to them as personalised radio channels while also listening to their own music collections, while Premium subscribers get those features plus full on-demand access to the Music Unlimited catalogue. The launch of the Music Unlimited Android app is important. It’s not the first cloud service from a big company to go live on Google’s smartphones – Google’s own cloud locker is available, as is Amazon’s cloud locker. However, the difference with Sony’s Music Unlimited is that it uses scan-and-match technology to match its users’ collections to its catalogue, removing the need to upload all those files. The app is available in the US, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain, the UK, Australia and New Zealand. Sony needs to release this app on the iPhone ASAP!! How do they expect to charge for there services when I can only list to music on my PS3.
