Apple’s Touch Event Patent Wasn’t Violated By Samsung Or Motorola, Says German Court

Samsung and Motorola have been having a rather bad time against Apple in the legal battles. The iPhone maker has dealt a few important defeats to both of these companies and they have been fervently trying to get back at Apple. However, they have bagged a minor win now that a German court has exempted them from patent infringement charges.

Touchscreen

The case involved Apple’s touch event patent. This patent elaborates how an OS responds to a touch event or chooses to ignore it. The alleged infringement was being pinned by Apple at both Samsung and Motorola.

However, it had been speculated that the scope of this particular patent is too wide and the court may find it impractical to give a ruling based on the patent. It so seems to be the case now. A German court has ruled that neither of the two Android vendors have violated Apple’s touch event patent.

Had the court ruled otherwise, it could have led to some serious problems for both Samsung and Motorola. For instance, Apple could then have pressed the court to have their devices removed from the German market or seek huge sums in damages. And given a few recent losses both these companies have suffered, they wouldn’t be able to stand a lot many other legal defeats.
