FreedomPop is a “free” wireless Internet provider that offers high-speed access to people who purchase its mobile and home-based products. Recently, the company has made its network available nationwide by supporting Sprint’s 3G network.
For the past few months FreedomPop had been planning to make its network available nationwide initially through Sprint’s 3G network as well as its budding 4G LTE network at the same time. But since Sprint’s LTE buildout has been slower than expected, FreedomPop has decided to offer 3G first, with an LTE device. You will be able to connect up to five devices to it. Users will get 500MB of 3G/4G coverage for free each month, and can choose a monthly 2GB plan for $19.99.
FreedomPop CEO Stephen Stokols said in a statement, “FreedomPop users can connect to the Internet across the entire nation leaving no reason to continue paying high monthly Internet bills for Internet from large, expensive carriers. We’re planning on launching our full national LTE rollout by the end of this year, but until then, adding nationwide 3G coverage gives users the ability to connect from anywhere.”
FreedomPop is now accepting orders for its first 3G/4G hotspot, the FreedomPop Overdrive Pro. The Overdrive Pro is FreedomPop’s first device to run on the Sprint network, and new devices are planned for later this year that will support Sprint’s LTE network. The company is now guaranteeing “full nationwide coverage” for its service.
