Intel is committed to bring its mainstream chips to thinner and lighter devices. The chip maker has achieved another milestone to reduce the power consumption of its Haswell chips.
Yesterday, the chip-maker revealed that it has been successful to shave the power envelope of Haswell processors to a rating of 4.5 watts. The power consumption rating is termed as Scenario design Power (SDP).
Earlier, at Computex in June, Intel iterated to bring down SDP to a level of 6 watts. The chip-maker seems to got lucky in bringing power consumption further down.
Such a low power consumption rating has enabled the processors to be fanless. According to an Intel spokesperson, “It’s the first fanless Core processor.”
Intel aims to push the high-performance Haswell processors into tablets and other mobile devices. Despite having Atom Bay Trail processor family aimed at mobile devices in the market, Intel seems to be planning to bring Haswell processors in the same market.
Intel is expected to float the low-power Haswell chips in the market in limited quantities later this year.
