If you’ve been experiencing problems while using Gmail, rest assured that there are millions other who are in the same boat. Gmail apparently ran into troubles today when emails were delivered late and attachments wouldn’t open. Google’s latest update says the issue is nearly resolved.
Initially, Google cited that the problems were being experienced by a very small number of Gmail users. However, eventually the company admitted that ‘less than 50% of Gmail users’ are experiencing the difficulties.
The company kept updating the status of Gmail, so as to keep the users informed. The initial update admitted the existence of the problem whereas several subsequent updates simply stated that the team was investigating the problem and attempting to resolve it.
The latest update from Google reads, “Gmail service has already been restored for some users, and we expect a resolution for all users within the next 3 hours. Please note this time frame is an estimate and may change.”
It further says, “Gmail message delivery delays and attachment download issues have been corrected for most affected users. We expect a small and declining number of messages to still be affected for the next 3 hours as the remaining delivery backlog is cleared. We are working on several options to accelerate the process and will provide more information when we have an updated time estimate.”
It is not clear as to what exactly caused the hiatus. We expect that once the issue is resolved, Google will reveal the cause of the entire episode.
