Description

Independent developer Nigel Green has announced TeachMe Colors 2 for iPad. The second App in a series of three, TeachMe Colors 2 is aimed generally at 3-5 year olds and encompasses the concept of play-based learning. Through five fun-filled activities and with the aid of someone to guide them, the child learns how to distinguish between 19 different colors. Activities include Random Light And Dark Balloon, Named Random Color, Random Color and Object, Drawing Activity and Color Memory Game.

Activity

Activity 1: Random Light And Dark Balloon Activity:
This activity introduces the concept of light and dark colors using four different sets of colored balloons. Once all three balloons have risen, the name of each color appears behind them. When the balloons are popped the next set of colored balloons will appear.

Activity 2: Named Random Color Activity:
As each colored circle is touched, the name above it expands to draw attention to the association between the color and word. The initial focus is to teach the child that each color has its own written name, without expecting them to learn how to spell it – this will come when they are ready.

Activity 3: Random Color and Object Activity:
Featuring 19 different objects and colors, this activity enforces the concept that the same object can be many different colors. Many of the objects also react to touch, such as the car that honks its horn and flashes its headlights or the train that whistles and blows smoke from its chimney.

Activity 4: Drawing Activity:
There are 3 sizes to use with the pencil or stamps. A palette of 19 colors are available. Children learn to create their own colorful artwork by drawing lines with the pencil and applying the stamps by tapping the screen. The drawing can also be saved into the iPad’s Photo Album where it can be easily emailed to family and friends.

Activity 5: Color Memory Game Activity:
A memory game where two cards are chosen at a time. If they are the same color, a sound is played when a matching pair is found. This activity assists not only with color recognition and matching, but also with memory recall. When all color pairs have been found, the child is rewarded with the sound of kids cheering. A choice of two card backs are available featuring the series characters Eli and Izzy. By taking turns, this game could also be played by two children at a time.

The third App in the series, which is currently under development will be aimed generally at ages 5-7 years.
