iOS simulator is a program for your computer that lets you test out any iOS apps you developed for the platform and now, a developer has somehow managed to find a way to get the iOS simulator running on his Mac, with the Dell ST2220T touchscreen monitor. He managed to turn his 21-inch touchscreen display into a simulator for the iPad with use of the Touch-Base driver for OS X……….
iOS Simulator is a very convenient and useful tool that can help developers test iOS applications on the computer and this tool is build for the confirmation of those applications ready to be submitted to Apple. A developer shows a Dell ST2220T multitouch display running the official iOS emulator, that talks to OS X via the Touch-Base driver. You will find the video end of this post, well, because Apple has voiced its opinion about the prospect of multitouch on its notebooks. Phil Schiller, from the MacBook Air promo: “If we tried to built it [multitouch] into the display, we discovered that it’s not in an optimal position. You don’t feel comfortable holding your hand up in the air, trying to multitouch”. And speaking at Apple’s September 2010 presser about the new all-flash MacBook Air, Steve Jobs explained that the Gorilla Arm Syndrome pretty much ruled out multitouch on notebook displays: “We’ve done tons of user testing on this and it turns out it doesn’t work. Touch surfaces don’t want to be vertical. It gives great demo, but after a short period of time you start to fatigue, and after an extended period of time, your arm wants to fall off”.

Here are drivers that work for me. I just installed them on OSX Lion and can verify that it works for one point touch. They are advertised to be multi-touch compatible but I have yet to verify.
