Most of us have strongly held to the belief that a number of conventional computing devices have grown obsolete and the world is increasing converging to newer ones such as tablets and smartphones. While that is true to a great extent, what has been ignored so far is the fact that laptops, too, have evolved and given birth to netbooks which are increasingly popular in today’s world.
An impressive infographic by Column Five Media details how netbooks are becoming popular around the globe. The infographic goes on to show that the sales of netbooks have tremendously risen over the recent years.
For instance, during the year 2008 to 2009, the sales of netbooks in North America increased by a whooping 137% while in Europe, Middle East and Africa, the increase in sales was 81%. The most dramatic increase in the sales of netbooks occured in China, which is increasingly becoming the largest market for electronics. Here, the sales were bumped by an astonishing 260%. Latin America also registered an 88% growth in sales while that in Asia Pacific increased by 65%.
Between 2008 and 2009, the growth in the revenue earned from the sales of netbooks was an impressive 72%, increasing from $6.65 million in 2008 to $11.4 million in 2009.
The influence of the netbooks can be gauged from the fact that in 2009, netbooks accounted for 11.7% of the overall portable computer market, which is a very significant share. Acer holds the largest share of the overall mass of netbooks with Asus following in closely. Other prominent netbooks vendors include HP, Dell and MSI.
