Samsung Galaxy SIII Has Been Launched! Did You Notice?

Just hours after the grand launch of Samsung Galaxy SIII smartphone, the wave of anticipation seems to die off. In the Google+ trending list it is seen in a downward trend, while iPhone is seen in an upward trend. Twitter trend board doesn’t show #GALAXYSIII at all. Does that mean people are simply not impressed with ‘The Next Galaxy’? Or, some people just didn’t notice that the phone was launched officially yesterday? Let’s find out.

The next Galaxy smartphone was launched yesterday evening at London through a huge event. Samsung invited thousands of reporters to join the event, and arranged live streaming of the event on TheNextGalaxy website and Facebook.

The new Galaxy SIII is tagged as a phone “Designed for humans and inspired by nature”. Samsung has really put a lot of efforts to design the user experience of this phone. And, I think they have done an impressive job. Samsung has introduced intelligent features called smart stay, direct call, smart alert, social tag, and S voice.

Samsung has not launched anything like Siri, but S voice seems to be subset of Siri. And, features like smart stay, direct call, smart alert, and social tag really differentiates it as a smartphone. Hopefully Apple designers won’t find themselves lonely anymore in the realm of killer user experience designing.

Samsung has also announced the opening of an online music store with 17 million songs in 7 countries initially. Security solutions for the Galaxy SIII have also been announced. The handset has also been selected as the official smartphone of the 2010 Olympics.

Despite Samsung’s efforts to give their users an unprecedented user experience and media buzz by introducing the device in an event streamed live from London, anticipation for the device seems to be dying off within 24 hours of the launch.

A quick search in Google News for Galaxy SIII and Galaxy S3 has returned around 5500 updates in total in the last 24 hours, while iPhone returned around 67000 updates in the last 24 hours. Not good for an event which accommodated thousands of reporters, and streamed it live for those who couldn’t be accommodated. Though we haven’t been able to get the stats of how many viewers watched the live stream, we have got a hunch that it was not a bandwidth crunching flood of viewers. Probably, many didn’t know about the launch at all.

Whatever it was, it seems that Galaxy is still behind iPhone in creating buzz. Still a long way to go Galaxy, still a long way to go!
