Need For Speed Movie Rights Bagged By DreamWorks

Need for Speed franchise has been undoubtedly one of the most wildly popular and successful franchises when it comes to car-racing games. The game has been a hit for many long years and it seems that Electronic Arts, the creators of this game, have decided it is time for the game to hit the big screen.

Earlier, it has been revealed that EA is seeking some big-wigs of the industry to give away the rights for a Need for Speed movie. According to reports, a number of big names seemed to be on the list, including Warner Bros, Sony Pictures and Paramount. But it seems that eventually, the prize was bagged by someone else.

Multiple publications are now reporting that at the end of the day, DreamWorks was able to secure the rights from EA. So far, the details of the agreement reached between EA and DreamWorks are unknown. However, it is estimated that the bids would be contained to the ‘low-seven figure range.’

The problem with DreamWorks securing the rights is that we run a huge risk of watching a Need for Speed movie which would be a look-alike of Fast and Furious franchise. Rather than basing the game on a particular release of the game, DreamWorks seems to have plans of going with the ‘general theme’ of the franchise. In essence, this would simply mean a movie about racing cars.

The problem with that is that we had enough of racing cars with Fast and Furious franchise and if DreamWorks created a Need for Speed movie along the same lines, it may not be a hit. What’s worse, it may fail to be interesting at all.
