One and a half month ago, researcher at Rice University have debuted a spray-on lithium-ion battery that can be applied on any surface. The team demonstrated the spray-on batteries on ceramic tiles by charging them with solar cells. After this paintable battery, we are now presented with another ground breaking battery invention – a flexible battery. This time, a team of Korean researchers has come up with this new innovation with flexible smartphones in mind.
The Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology has developed the flexible battery. Not only have they been able to develop one, they have also dished out a video demo which shows how the functionality and power of the battery remains unaffected even when its bent and unbent.
The lithium-ion based flexible battery has been developed by Professor Keon Jae Lee and his team. You can wrap it around something, bend it, or make use of its flexibility in any way possible, yet the battery performance won’t be affected.
Given the fact that space and weight is critical in smartphone, such a battery may be great even for a regular smartphone since it may end up occupying less space than the regular battery. Watch the video below to catch a glimpse of the battery.
