FL-based Yasmin Studios today introduces Hansel and Gretel – Children’s Interactive Storybook HD 1.0 for iPad, their latest interactive eBook. Taken from the famous fairy tale as recorded by the Brothers Grimm in the early 19th century, this interactive version features expressive, life-like graphics, professional narration, optional symphonic musical accompaniment, characters that can be moved and respond to touch, advanced lighting and animation effects, and forward and backward page turns.

The eBook takes full advantage of the outstanding iPad display, and colors are true and vibrant. The volume level achievable through the built-in speaker is sufficient, and headphones or earbuds are not required. Particularly effective is the music, a small ensemble of strings and woodwinds, which is beautifully performed and edited, and helps create a fairy tale atmosphere with contrasting elements of serious classical instrumentation and whimsical musical themes. During or after the narration the reader may move the on-screen characters as if they were puppets acting out the story. Every character makes a vocal sound, heard when they are touched or moved.

The story follows Hansel and Gretel, a young brother and sister, who live with their father, a woodcutter, and their evil stepmother. Blaming famine across the land, the stepmother orders the father to lead the children into the woods and leave them there, reducing the number of mouths to feed. The children ingeniously find their way back, but the second time they are left alone in the woods they become lost. They then find a candy house of a wicked with who plans to eat them after they have been fattened up. About to roast Hansel, the witch asks Gretel to check the oven, and Gretel closes the oven door on the witch.
