As of this moment, a number of TV guide apps are available on the mobile platform. Some of them are vendor-specific, such as those offered by Netflix etc; others are more generic. However, Samsung has come up with its own offering, namely the ‘Video Discovery app’ which makes searching content across multiple listings a lot easier and quicker.
Samsung demonstrated the seamless functionality of this upcoming app at the MWC 2013 event. During the event, the company ran the app on another of its upcoming products, Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet. The best thing about this app is that it includes all the favorite features from different TV guide apps and then some.
For instance, Video Discovery app comes equipped with the popular options of universal remote support, local TV listings and the ability to share content titles across multiple social media sites.
However, what really stands this app apart from others of its league is that it lets you search and find content based on specific listings, or delivery systems. For instance, if you search a given show, you can see which delivery systems (eg. Netflix) are offering it. You can then choose which of these delivery system do you wish to get that specific TV show from.
Once you select a particular delivery system, you are taken to the app specific to that company. For instance, if you searched up a TV show and decided to watch it on Netflix, you will be taken to the Netflix app and the show will automatically start streaming.
Samsung also hopes to add a number of other features to the app before it is launched, which is planned somewhere during the second quarter of this year. We’ll surely be looking out for this one.
