By using any weather apps, one may get the information, but what if there’s no reliable data connection to get the latest update? Keeping that in mind, a Danish team of enterprising inventors has created Vaavud, a new smartphone gadget that lets you measure wind speed easily.
Vaavud is actually a radar alike wind meter. This wind meter contains no electronics, but still connects wirelessly to your phone. Vaavud comes with a rotor, having four small magnets inside it.
The magnetic field sensor in the phone can detect when they rotate, and by using algorithms normally used for sound processing, the rotations can be converted to wind speed
The Vaavud wind meter enables you to take precise and reliable measurements of the wind anywhere, using your iOS or Android phone. And of course you can share your measurements online, and see live wind readings from other users on a map.
So Vaavud can help you plan your trip, choose the right gear when you get to the spot, and alert others of the conditions before they go.
The device has been very thoroughly tested and it has been calibrated in a wind tunnel at The Technical University of Denmark. The Vaavud wind meter will is durable and easy to use. Vaavud works with iPhone 4, 4S, 5, 5C, 5S, Samsung Galaxy S3, S4, HTC One and Google Nexus 5 and it costs $45. See how Vaavud works in the video below.
